Reasons Your Social Security Check May Be Late

Your bank information has changed: If you’ve recently changed your bank information and haven’t updated your Social Security account, that could be why you haven’t received your money.

You recently moved: If your address has changed since your last Social Security payment, this may cause your benefits to be delayed.

You have just applied for benefits: If recently apply for social security, it will take several months before you start receiving benefits. Approximately 30 days after applying, you will receive a letter indicating the start date of expected benefits.

The Social Security Administration has stopped your benefits: The SSA can end your benefits if you start working and your earnings exceed the maximum amount allowed. Your benefits can also be suspended if you have been incarcerated for more than 30 days.

Social Security offices are experiencing delays: If the Social Security office processing your payments has a problem, such as understaffing, it could potentially delay your benefits.

Check your Social Security status

If you’ve applied for benefits but haven’t received a letter in the mail and it’s been 30 or more days, you can check the status of your application. You will need to enter your My Social Security Account or create one if you haven’t already.
